Important maps in Class 10 CBSE
Maps in lower classes -
In class 6, I was introduced to the concept of map marking. This was introduced to give students, a clear idea where a particular place is located in the state/country. Mostly, from class 6, I was told to mark places in the Indian political and river map.
Maps in class 10 –
Till class 9, the number of places that needed to be marked in the exams were limited. I memorized the location of the places and reproduced the same in my exams. But, in class 10, there were a lot of places, which I needed to memorize, in order to mark the same, in the board exams.
Types of maps –
In class 10, there were two types of maps. The first kind required me to write the name of the place, with the location of the place and a hint related to the place given. The second kind required me to mark the given place on a map. There were no international maps, (i.e.) all maps revolved around the states and rivers of India.
Difficulty while marking maps and solutions –
The problem faced by me while marking maps, was the number of places that needed to be memorized. There were more than 70 places, which needed to be memorized. While identifying places, I would often forget the names of the places.
So, I found that remembering names of the places, in the form of mnemonics, helped me a lot during identification. There were some places which I found to be asked repeatedly in multiple exams.

Compiled Resources –
For the benefit of the students coming into class 10, I have compiled a list of maps and their places, which have high probability of appearing in the board exams. Note that it is safer to study all the places and use this resource as a revision before the boards.
